NGOs (non-governmental organizations) work to address social issues in nearly every country around the world. There is no central search engine that catalogs the work and focus areas of every NGO.

Look for the country's agency in charge of regulating charities; it might have a searchable database of its registered organizations (for example, the Internal Revenue Service for the United States, or the Canada Revenue Agency for Canada).

If you are outside the United States and are looking for personal assistance, be aware that very few foundations give grants to individuals. Try an internet search for your country's name and "relief assistance NGOs." You can also browse the staff-recommended websites below.
