It’s a highly competitive environment for grant funding in the Bay Area, so why not explore other sustainability options? Many nonprofits have done exactly that by pursuing earned income ventures. More and more human service organizations all over the country are making the leap and exploring new opportunities; everything from healthy food catering services for schools to moving businesses run by the formerly incarcerated. These social enterprises are often integrated into social service programs.

This session will provide an overview of what it takes to start your own earned-income venture and where to get funding and other critical support. It will include hands-on exercises designed to help you assess your readiness for pursuing an earned income strategy and to brainstorm venture opportunities for your agency.
