Despite their tax exempt status, many nonprofit and religious organizations actually have many potential tax obligations to be aware of. For example, while these organizations are exempt from federal and state income tax, no blanket exemption for sales and use taxes exist. Which types of sales are nonprofits exempt from? Which types of organizations are required to obtain a Sellers Permit? Which types of organizations qualify for California’s Welfare Exemption? This presentation will cover many of the frequently-asked BOE compliance questions for nonprofit and exempt organizations.
