Recent reports on the demographics of the nonprofit sector show that 68% of nonprofit employees are female, as are 60% of nonprofit executives.  At a time of unrest and division WQW throughout the country, it is important to ensure that the perspectives of the sector’s diversity are leverage toward inclusion efforts. To kick off National Women’s Month, Foundation Center has convened a panel of women leaders in the nonprofit sector to share their experiences and advice on creating more inclusive organizations.  We invite you to join us and submit questions for our panelists in advance through this link. This panel is led by these powerful women leaders including: 

 

Karen Graham_resized

 Karen Graham - Executive Director of Idealware 
Karen Graham is a sought-after speaker, trainer, writer, and consultant with expertise in technology leadership and innovation, nonprofit software, and digital strategy. As Idealware's executive director she leads a team of researchers, presenters, and writers who create technology information resources designed to help nonprofit leaders put their vision into action. Her past experience includes leading the technology learning and networking programs at MAP for Nonprofits, serving on proposal review boards for technology grants and for the Dot.Org Awards, helping the startup thedatabank transform into a thriving software company, and various roles in arts and human services organizations. Participants in Karen’s training courses describe her as warm, engaging, and frequently mention that she leads some of the most interactive workshops they’ve ever attended. She holds an MBA in Nonprofit Management from the University of St. Thomas.

Sarah Durham: CEO of Big Duck 
Sarah founded Big Duck in 1994 to help nonprofits increase their visibility, raise money, and achieve their missions. Today, she uses her deep experience in nonprofit communications to guide the entire Big Duck team. The author of Brandraising: How Nonprofits Raise Visibility and Money Through Smart Communications (Jossey-Bass/Wiley, 2010), her expertise has been borrowed by NPR, The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Guidestar, and beyond. She is a sought-after speaker on topics such as branding, fundraising, and other nonprofit communications topics. Sarah is a regular speaker at local and international AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) conferences, the International Fundraising Congress (IFC) in the Netherlands, and the Nonprofit Technology Conference (NTC). Sarah is a total nonprofit communications nerd. She was named a "top fundraiser under 40" by Fundraising Success magazine in 2006, and one of the most influential women in technology by Fast Company magazine in 2010. An adjunct professor at NYU's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, Sarah teaches strategic communications to other aspiring nonprofit nerds. Sarah serves as Vice Chair of the National Brain Tumor Society's board of directors.

Denise Mayotte: Executive Director/Sheltering Arms Foundation 
Denise has served as the Executive Director of the Sheltering Arms Foundation since November 2003. Previous roles have included service as a program officer for the McKnight Foundation and executive director for both KFAI Radio and the Neighborhood Resource Center. Denise is the co-chair of the Start Early Funders Coalition and the Youth Funders Network and a member of Mayor Hodges' Cradle to K Cabinet. She serves on the boards of the Minnesota Council on Foundations and Voqal. She holds a BA from the University of Minnesota and was a policy fellow with the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

Patricia Kelly

Patricia E. Kelly: Ebony Horsewomen, Inc.
A former U.S. marine, award-winning community leader, and equestrian trailblazer, Patricia E. Kelly has been at the helm of the Hartford, CT-based non-profit organization Ebony Horsewomen, Inc. for the past 30+ years. Initially started in 1984 as a cultural and social enrichment organization for female equestrians, Ebony Horsewomen, Inc. serves over 300 youth annually, creating a safe space for local youth to receive mentorship and personal development. Kelly has been a trained equestrian instructor for over 37 years, as well as a certified Master Urban Riding instructor and Equine Husbandry instructor. She also holds a certification in Equine Assisted Growth, Learning, and Therapy as a Horse Specialist via EAGALA-(Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association). Kelly has been previously recognized for her trailblazing efforts multiple times, most currently as one of CNN’s Top 10 Heroes of 2014 and as one of Aetna’s Champions for Change.
