Learn the basics of nonprofit governance.
This session will cover the basics of nonprofit governance including such topics as holding proper board meetings, dealing with potential conflicts of interests, recordkeeping requirements, and other information to keep you in compliance with the law. It will also discuss IRS requirements and recent changes in the D.C. Nonprofit Corporation Code.
The services of the DC Bar Pro Bono Program Community Economic Development Project will be explained and its new web site demonstrated.

Nonprofit board members, executive directors and those thinking about starting a nonprofit – especially those incorporated in the District of Columbia!
About the Presenter:
Regina Hopkins began her legal career in private practice. She was principally associated with Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, where she specialized in employee benefits and executive compensation. Ms. Hopkins then served for 15 years as vice president and general counsel for Habitat for Humanity International. She received her B.A. from Carnegie-Mellon University and her JD from Boston College Law School.
Currently, Ms. Hopkins is the assistant director for Community Economic Development at the DC Bar Pro Bono Program.
