The Foundation Center and Jovid Foundation present this interactive session that will cover the basics on strategies to improve board engagement. Topics covered will include:
- Importance of creating effective agendas and running good meetings
- Examples of how boards are structured (size, types of committees, officers, terms for officers and members, etc.)
- How to keep committees engaged
- Strategies to outreach and recruit new members
- Ways to ensure board accountability and conduct self-assessments.
Participants will be encouraged to share examples from their respective organizations which will guarantee a lively and fun conversation!
Bob Wittig, Executive Director, Jovid Foundation
While pursuing his MBA, Bob took a course on nonprofit management and was hooked! For the past 25 years, he has worked in the nonprofit sector wearing a lot of different hats.
Since 2002, Bob has been executive director of the Jovid Foundation in Washington, DC. In August 2017, he will become the first executive director for the Catalogue for Philanthropy. Prior to Jovid, Bob served as the executive director at Academy of Hope, development director at Joseph’s House and the direct marketing manager at Special Olympics International. In 1992, he was part of the first group of Peace Corps volunteers to serve in Ukraine.
Bob has written articles for Charity Channel and was a contributing author to YOU and Your Nonprofit Board: Advice and Practical Tips from the Field’s Top Practitioners, Researchers, and Provocateurs. He co-authored, Nonprofit Board Service for the GENIUS., with Susan Schaefer.
Bob’s board service includes: founding board member of Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School (treasurer); All Souls Church Unitarian (treasurer); Workforce for Regional Collaboration; and the Ross Elementary School PTA (treasurer).
