Volunteers are the backbones of many nonprofit organizations! Not only do they save money by reducing payroll costs, but they can assist with fundraising, administrative tasks, and championing the mission of an organization. Yet they are usually under no obligation to work with you or to work with excellence. This workshop will help organization leaders learn how to recruit talented volunteers and keep them engaged and motivated to work with excellence. Learn the basics of volunteer recruitment, orientation, training, appreciation, management and mobilization.
- How to prepare the organization for volunteers
- Create position descriptions
- Where to recruit volunteers
- Training and engaging volunteers
- How to show appreciation for your volunteers
About the Presenter:
Andrena Sawyer is the founder and CEO of P.E.R.K. Consulting (P.E.R.K.). She has over 10 years of experience in the human services and community development fields. Early on in her career, she noticed that small organizations that were providing the most needed services in the community were often limited by capacity and funding. Their efforts were crippled, and the results were long-lasting and negatively impacted the communities that these organizations served. This compelled her to start P.E.R.K., a firm that seeks to provide quality but affordable services for small to mid-sized organizations.
P.E.R.K. stands on its pillars of Passion, Experience, Relevance, and Knowledge. The team draws from extensive study, knowledge and experiences to assist organizations through the three-step process of creating, implementing, and evaluating programs. P.E.R.K. partners with organizations to apply this systematic approach for internal projects and external initiatives.
P.E.R.K. helps organizations with entity formation, program design, strategic planning and capacity building. It is a boutique size firm that is committed to giving start-up organizations a strong foundation to set them up for success as they grow.
In 2013, Andrena was named among the “Top 30 under 30” movers and shakers in Washington DC by WKYS 93.9. In 2015, P.E.R.K. Consulting placed 1st in the AccelerateUp Business Growth Competition presented by the Maryland Small Business Development Center and Capital One Bank. This award was for fast-growing businesses that can serve as models to new startups. In 2015, Andrena was awarded The International Alliance for Women World of Difference 100 Award and the Women Owned Small Business Award by the Associated Black Charities. In addition to her work with P.E.R.K. Consulting, she is the author of The Other Side of Assertiveness, Ponder it in her Heart, and The Long Way Home.
