About Cheryl Thomas

Ms. Thomas has over 30+ years of experience in Management, Accounting and Finance. She got her start at a Big Eight public accounting firm and spent over 20 years with the largest secondary mortgage investor, Fannie Mae. Ms. Thomas led and managed operational functions where she implemented strategic initiatives and resolved complex accounting and internal control problems. She led cross-divisional teams and, managed the implementation of workforce development and change management strategies. She also managed both internal audit and compliance monitoring functions.

Ms. Thomas, who holds a BS in accounting, MBA and CPA certification, served as a Vice President, Operations Division at Fannie Mae, Ms. Thomas monitored accounting performance and controls across the Operations division ($45 million budget annually and over 500 employees). Ms. Thomas functioned as an internal audit liaison; collaborated with senior management to address accounting and financial control issues. She managed divisional re-organizations, budgets, workforce development projects and training functions. She also administered training in areas such as strategic planning, the Balanced Scorecard development, team building and development, system implementation business guidance, loan purchasing and lender servicing. Ms. Thomas also developed five-year divisional strategic plans and implemented the Balanced Scorecard (strategy map and performance measurement systems). She also implemented operational performance management system and lead business process reengineering projects. Over ten years ago, Ms. Thomas established a minority, woman-owned management consulting firm that specializes in providing strategic planning, financial/accounting services, and business management solutions to private and publicly owned clients. She works with organizations to analyze the dynamics of their businesses, deploy innovative strategies, and adopt tailored-made solutions based on sound business and management practices.

Ms. Thomas is a member of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPA) and Maryland Society of CPA’s. She holds a BS in Accounting from Xavier University in New Orleans, LA and an MBA in Finance from George Washington University in Washington, DC.
